To celebrate the 14th edition of the Athens Tango Marathon, we invite you to join us for a special pre-party on Thursday, December 4th — an event open to the entire tango community!!!!

This is a warm-up filled with tradition, community, and heartfelt celebration, inspired by the beloved Buenos Aires A long tradition that we tend to forget.

Why do we open the dance floor in this way?
In Buenos Aires, used to be more than just do a show or a spectacle: it was the need to pay a tribute.

The reason to stop the dance, It was a moment to honor those who have contributed with their dance, personality, and love to the tango community.

​

It was a joyful celebration where dancers could feel embraced by everyone — a true expression of the spirit behind a "Ronda de Abrazos."

A Special Tribute!

This year, we proudly honor Maria Filali and Alberto Colombo — two extraordinary dancers and pillars of the European tango scene. For the first time, these two legendary paths will cross on the dance floor, symbolizing connection and community.

​

Their improvised performance will take place in a setting true to the traditional Argentine milonga, fostering a heartfelt, spontaneous toast to the dance we all cherish.

About Felipe Martinez,

He is a full time tango dancer, teacher, DJ and organizer based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Felipe has been DJing tango for more than 20 years. He is a resident DJ in the Bay Area at The Beat, Genesis, Alberto’s and El Valenciano and has also played music in Europe (Spain, Portugal, France, Germany, Istanbul) and Buenos Aires, where he was invited to play music at El Beso and Villa Malcolm Club on several occasions.

He has played music at most important festivals and marathons in the US: Portland, San Francisco, Baltimore, Denver, Washington DC, Atlanta, Houston, Fort Bragg, Austin, Boulder as well as in many other communities like Providence, New York, Los Angeles Angeles, Montreal.

He has also played in Asia at many festivals and marathons: Seoul, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Taipei, Singapore, Bali, as well as Tainan and Taichung.

Felipe’s musical selection is based on the Golden Age classics that ensure a great atmosphere for dancing.
