Alejandro Larenas and Marisol Morales are internationally renowned Argentine tango artists whose work brings together a profound respect for tradition and a constant desire to explore, question, and evolve the dance.

With more than 27 years immersed in tango and over two decades as professional partners, they have dedicated their lives not only to dancing and teaching, but also to researching tango’s history, music, culture, and movement. Since forming their partnership in 2004, they have developed a distinctive style that moves naturally between the elegance of traditional social tango and sophisticated contemporary expression.

Their careers have taken them on more than 35 international tours, teaching and performing at respected festivals, schools, and events throughout Europe, North America, Asia, Australia, and Argentina. Beyond the stage, they are recognized as passionate educators and cultural ambassadors who approach tango as a living language—one shaped by music, embrace, improvisation, and human connection.

Since becoming directors of TANGart Athens in 2019, Alejandro and Marisol have guided generations of dancers through a teaching method based on clarity, musical understanding, biomechanics, and improvisational freedom.

Their approach to tango

​

Alejandro and Marisol believe that tango should not be reduced to memorized sequences. Instead of teaching students what to repeat, they teach them how to understand movement, communicate with a partner, interpret the music, and make their own decisions within the dance.

Their biomechanical approach emphasizes balance, alignment, skeletal organization, and efficient movement. This allows dancers to develop a technique that feels natural, expressive, and sustainable—without unnecessary force or tension.

Improvisation lies at the heart of their work. Every movement emerges through the relationship between the music, the embrace, the space, and the person with whom they are dancing. Their tango is precise but never rigid, sophisticated but always human.

Musicality beyond the beat

For Alejandro and Marisol, musicality means much more than following the rhythm. Their interpretation explores phrasing, orchestration, texture, silence, contrast, and emotional atmosphere.

They can move from sharp rhythmic precision to expansive lyrical movement, responding not only to what the orchestra plays, but also to the intention behind it. Music is not simply an accompaniment to their dance—it is the environment in which the dance comes alive.

Tradition as a foundation for evolution

Their tango carries the essential qualities of Golden Age social dancing: the embrace, navigation, cadence, grounded elegance, and sensitivity to the shared space of the milonga.

At the same time, they believe that honoring tradition does not mean copying it. Through years of research and experimentation, they continually reinterpret tango’s foundations, discovering new possibilities in timing, dynamics, structure, and communication.
